Full Circle

It's hard to believe that a little over a year ago I was departing California from my last visit, before my move. In a previous blog, I wrote about going from a long distance relationship to living together. I talked about his items, and my items, as well as the thought of sharing. I'm pleased to announce that everything worked out amazingly. The industrial size trashcan, that once took up 1/4 of the kitchen now lives outside with it's black trashbags. The terrible pointless rock table, moved out when his cousin moved out. The tacky coffee cup collection was just recently requested to be put away, after he grew a fond liking towards my coffee cups.

I amazed each day how I feel as though I fall deeper in love. It has been such a natural progression. Truly a beautiful experience. I look forward to what the next year has to hold (I hope it holds a new move, a new city, and endless love and laughter.).

Thank You

I have been thinking a lot lately, about the importance of the phrase "thank you". I have always been a bit of a manners cop. However, I thought about all the people who have made me who I am, and how I may have forgotten to thank them along the way. So, with that said, I've recently sent some e-mails and note cards to those who I feel have tremendously shaped me into who I am.

I hope that the letters have left each person with a warm fuzzy feeling. Have you thought about who you'd thank? Or what you'd write?

My suggestion is that it is simple and too the point. Small enough to be saved, and the message large enough not to be forgotten.

I challenge you.

Upholding My Own Standards

All in All, I'm a pretty lucky girl. I was raised by two loving parents, enjoyed life with a co-partner, have held on to the same best friends, got the college experience, and now I enjoy life with my very own prince charming. I'm blessed to have been able to pick up, move across the country with love and support, and within 3 months find a very busy but good job. At work I was immediately given lots of responsibilities, and challenges. I'm praised often, and my co-workers seem to think I'm an added benefit to the team. My thoughts on my job vary. Maybe it's because I took a pay cut, or because in any given week, I rarely work 40 hours but typically 50-60 hours, all for what should be 40 hour a week pay. I've seen great success at work, and there is never a dull moment. Yet-- I never leave feeling "full".

You see, I went to college. I worked real hard. I made average grades, and worked towards a sense of independence. I majored in two things that I loved, and created life goals for myself. I first graduated and got a good job, but was rarely happy. Upon leaving that I found something that I loved. By chance and a good friend I began volunteering with an organization and my life changed.

I felt that full feeling, despite no pay. I felt satisfied, even when hope seemed far away. I felt empowered, by the littlest of actions. And when it was all said and done, I knew it was a passion more than a calling.

I'm lucky to have a job, to live with someone who loves me, and to have my health among many things. But being type A isn't easy when you feel as if you aren't achieving the goals you have personally set for yourself. It causes you to become frustrated, and unsatisfied with the current situation.

But I know-- this little light of mine shines, because today I received a phone call that was a mere flicker to my soul. And from that phone call I remembered "your strength humbles me, your stories make me brave, and your hugs continue to embrace me".  Right then I made the decision to re-work my schedule to follow my passion & to uphold my own standards....

Low Sugar, HOMEMADE granola!

Homemade (low sugar) Granola

Next week I’m headed out of town for a few days. I’m taking a red-eye back to the East Coast. My Godfather’s son is getting married, and to me they’ve always been just like cousins. It will be a good time to see everyone including my family. Since both flights are at weird hours I thought it’d be best to pack a snack. I wanted something that wouldn’t melt, wasn’t terribly messy, and didn’t have an odor.
Nick and I have been talking about making granola so I thought this was the perfect time to try making a batch. I searched high and low on the Internet of recipes. Some had things like peanut butter, agave, sugar, cereal, coconut, dried fruit, and other liquid components. I wanted to make something that was on the “ healthier” & “lighter” side. I stumbled across two recipes that had ingredients that I liked and I combined them.

Low Sugar Granola
Bake: 325/350 for 55 minutes total
1st (350)time: 15 minutes
2nd(350) time: 20 minutes
3rd (325)time:20 minutes
*if your oats are too brown, pull them out of the oven (they will burn!)!

·                     10 cups Old Fashioned Oats (I used 42 ounces of Old Fashioned Oats!) Substitution: If you can’t find old fashion you could use quick oats; they’re finer to cook faster. During baking check to ensure the oats are not burning
·                    ¼ cup ground flaxseed (I use golden most the time)
·                    ¼ cup wheat germ (this is found on the cereal aisle near the oatmeal; hot cereal)
·                    2 tablespoons cinnamon
·                    1 tablespoon ground ginger
·                    ½ teaspoon nutmeg
·                    ¾ cup vegetable oil
·                    4-41/2 cups of nuts any combination will work. (I decided to use what was lingering in the closet almonds and pecans)
Here is what I used to make 4 ½ cups of nuts/seeds--
§  ¼ cup silvered almonds
§  ¼ cup pecan halves
§  2 cups raw pepitas
§  2 cups raw sunflower seeds
·                    2-3 cups dried fruit any combination will work.
Here is what I used to make 2 cups of dried fruit--
§  1 cup dried cranberries
§  1 cup mixed dried fruit (blueberries, cranberries, and mangoes)
·                   3/4-1 cup honey (you want your mixture to be glistening)

** Optional:  ½-1 teaspoon of fresh orange zest

Step one: combine oats, splenda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and ground ginger in a large pot. Stir all dry goods together.
Remember: you *MUST* grind your flax seed!

Step two: line 2-3 baking sheets with tin foil

Step three: mix oil, wheat germ, and flax seed into the oat and spice mixture.

Step four: spread mixture onto lined baking sheets.

Step five: bake for 15 minutes

Step six:::: flip oats with spatula, and bake for an additional 15 minutes.

Step seven: heat honey in Pyrex measuring cup for approximately 40 seconds in the microwave (until honey is thin). Once honey is removed from microwave zest ½-1 teaspoons of fresh orange zest into honey.

Step eight: once oat mixture is out of the oven, gently pour mixture back into large pot. (Be kind to the tin foil, you will re-use it) Remember to turn off your oven!

Step nine: mix in dried fruit to mixture, and stir.

Step ten: mix nuts and seeds into mixture, and stir.

Step eleven: slowly stir honey into mixture.

Step twelve: spread mixture back onto tin foil covered baking dishes.

Step thirteen: place-baking sheets into the oven, let sit in oven over night.

(Recipe adapted MotherNatureTalks.Com)
Additional Information: I typically now use dried blueberries, dried cranberries, and golden raisins. For nuts I use raw silvered almonds, raw sliced almonds, raw sunflower seeds, raw pepitas, and a little bit of raw pecans. When I am about to get chia seeds I also add those to the mixture.

Enjoy!

For the LOVE of Pumpkin

For the Love of Pumpkin...
I love pumpkin! I love Everything pumpkin. I am sucker for anything with pumpkin on the label (even though I’m sure it’s really butternut squash, and I’m typically not a fan… or maybe I’ve just convinced myself that!). I love the candles, and decorations, and just the cool weather (well the last 2 days of cool weather, Summer can have the 90 plus degree weather back!!).
Here are a few recipes I have made and documented. Please enjoy these recipes, and share

Pumpkin Pie Spice- is merely a combination of a few of dry ingredients. Mixing your own can save you about 4-6 dollars! (Simple Delight: Try adding to your favorite cup of coffee!)

Pumpkin Pie Spice:
·      1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
·      1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
·      1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
·      1/8 teaspoon allspice
Combine all ingredients, and store in an airtight container.
(Recipe adapted from AllRecipes.Com)

Chocolate Chip Pumpkin Muffins- This is the easiest recipe, and by far my favorite. Always a crowd pleaser!!You can make these muffins into small loaves as well!

Chocolate Chip Pumpkin Muffins:
Bake: 325 degrees, 20-25 minutes

·      1 cup Pumpkin Puree or Pumpkin Pie Mix
·      1 spice Cake Mix
·      1 egg
·      1/3 cup of oil
·      1 teaspoon vanilla
·      1 ½ cup Chocolate Chip
Combine all ingredients and bake.
(Recipe adapted from family friend Carol C.)

Pumpkin Cookies with Pumpkin Cream Cheese Frosting:
Bake: 350 degrees, 13-15 minutes

Pumpkin Cookie Ingredients

·      2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
·      1 teaspoon baking soda
·      1 teaspoon baking powder
·      2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
·      ½ teaspoon nutmeg
·      ½ teaspoon salt
·      1 stick of softened butter ( ½ cup)
·      1 cup white sugar or * 1 cup Splenda
·      ½ cup brown sugar or * ¼ cup Splenda brown sugar
·      1 egg
·      1 ¼ cup pumpkin puree
·      1 teaspoon vanilla
·      2 tablespoons ground flax seed

Pumpkin Cream Cheese Frosting Ingredients

·      ¼ cup pumpkin puree
·      4 oz cream cheese
·      ¾ cup powdered sugar
·      ½ teaspoon pumpkin pie spice

* Optional: chopped pecans or walnuts, use to sprinkle on top of frosted cookies!

Pumpkin Cookies:

Mix dry ingredients (flour, baking powder, baking soda, ground cinnamon, nutmeg, & salt) * I added an additional dash of pumpkin pie spice

Cream butter and sugars together with mixer. Add pumpkin, vanilla, egg to the butter mixture. Slowly add dry ingredients. Continue to mix at medium speed. Roll dough in to quarter size balls and place on cookie sheet. Cookies should be about 2inches apart so they can properly rise.

Frosting:

Mix powder sugar, pumpkin pie spice, cream cheese, and smaller portion of pumpkin puree

Once cookies have cooled, spread frosting on cookies. For an additional flavor add your favorite chopped nuts on top!

These cookies were wonderful! They’re so moist. I used both granulated Splenda with fiber, and brown sugar Splenda in this recipe. By using Splenda I saved the batch almost 800 calories. In addition the flax seed, Splenda with fiber, and remaining pumpkin in the frosting increased the fiber count drastically! *This batch had approximately 54 grams of fiber!

I Don't Want To Wait Till Tomorrow To Tell You How I Feel.

It’s 9:30 on Friday morning, and I’m sitting outside listening to the birds’ chirm on top of Matt Nathanson in the background. It is cool outside, the sky is the perfect shade of blue, and there isn’t a cloud in sight.  Had you told me one year ago, that today I’d be sitting in California in the backyard of someone I love so much, I would have laughed. I would have cracked up, and called you crazy.

I’ve been wanting to blog so badly lately. Each time I sit down I have a million thoughts racing through my head, but I can’t seem to get them to the digital piece of paper.  Here is my final attempt to get all of this off my chest. …  … (Forgive my rambles, rants, and disorganized chaos.)

A year… I can’t believe it’s gone. There are so many “ year” marks going on my life, I find it so joyous! I feel like I’ve said that statement, 1 million plus times. I just keep standing awe, but I better get moving before the next year passes me.

In an attempt to say something different that past entries, I’ll start here.
********************************************************************************************

I’m moving… I once thought I’d like to be that independent girl who did it on her own (I’ll always be the girl that made it from scratch.). Who wanted to be “selfish” but only ended up being selfless and rather tired. I use to dream that I’d live alone, and am the epitome of independent, do-it-yourself, woman.  However I realize … those were just were only daydreams, and this is how reality is playing out.
I’m moving…
I’m not moving to the neighboring city where all the 20 something’s go after they’ve left home. (Whom am I fooling, that’d be too normal!)
I’m not moving to the Big Apple where I once thought I wanted to starve and teach under privileged children. (Whom am I fooling, that’d kill my parents)
I’m not moving to the beach where I run when the world seems to be too much. (No never, that would be to close to understandable)
I’m not moving around the corner to establish my independence from my family. (Ha- that’d be too easy!)
I’m moving 3,000 miles to be with the love of my life, I’m moving to be with the handsome groomsman who stole my east coast heart, and took it to the west coast.
 I’m moving to C A L I F O R N I A.
This big life change is scheduled to happen after my finals days at the North Carolina shore in mid-late August ( I am announcing that so you can mark it tentatively in your calendars! HA! )

If I kept this post filled with sentimental blurbs, I may lose followers. And since I’m horrible at updating. I’ll bring in the humor.  My boyfriend is great, wonderful, amazing, sexy, intelligent, kind, and funny (go ahead friends, vomit that I’m becoming THAT girl)…. BUT sometimes his sense of style sucks.  You will have to stay tuned as we do a “trading spaces” over the next few months.  We’re going to trade single nick to committed nick.  Transformations include: the industry size kitchen trashcan, the all-natural rock table, the rags to bath towels, and many more!

While I’m preparing to move, forgive me I may get emotional. I may cry over one glass of wine instead of crying over many bottles. To my friends, and followers it’s because of you that I’m in the place I am today. It’s because you stood behind me telling me to seek happiness that I can take this leap of faith. Because you helped me dare to dream, I can now dare to live.

I love each and every one of you. I’ll continue to cherish the moments we have as neighbors. But please know that mileage will not separate our hearts. Please forgive me ahead of time if I tell you this when you're not prepared. Or if you find a card on your door step with smudge marks, it's because I can't let the moment wait till tomorrow to you how much you mean to me. You’ll always be my friends (you'll most likely always know my dark secrets, and know me best), and my door will always be open. And if you find yourself 3 hours ahead of me, lost, confused, over-joyed, scared, ecstatic, or complacent you can call at any hour, our friendship knows no time difference.

Meet me in California.

First Day of the New Year

feeling
Thankful
Followed by
new
Resolutions

I am thankful. I’m sure I sound like every other person on January 1st. Either you’ve loved it or you have hated it, none the less a new year is here—even if we’re not all ready for it yet!

Below are the items I’m most thankful for. No specific order, each holds a special spot in making me thankful for a successful year in 2010.

Comfort Zone Camp- Comfort Zone Camp is a non- profit bereavement camp for children 7-17 who have lost a parent or sibling. Camp is 100% free and matches a child with a one on one mentor for an entire weekend. I am honored and humbled to have been matched 7 times in 2010, and to have directly worked with 10 little girls. Because of the strength these children at camp have shown me, I’ll be running my first marathon in a few days. I have raised enough money to send 6 kids to camp ($500- per child to attend camp)!!!  Not only have I learned so much about myself from the children, but from the dedicated volunteers and staff as well.

Reminding myself that there is no time for misery- In May I threw in the towel. I had recognized (10 sizes later, and many cocktails) how miserable I was at my day job. I decided to ditch security, and seek happiness. Because of my courage to leave I believe everything else fell into place.

True friendship knows no distance- I grew up traveling the states. I called home the state before the current one, and never thought I’d settle. I remember crying when I’d say goodbye, and hoping I’d see these people again. Thanks to communication being easier, the pain of the goodbyes seem to never have existed. My girlfriends don’t seem far away at all. This year I experienced weddings, new life, and the honoring of a lost life—all with those that I consider my true friends.

As for the New Year—I’m open for suggestions on how to improve life. Below are some of my lighthearted thoughts.

*I want to finish my first marathon with a smile that is contagious* I want to laugh until the wee hours of the morning, because it doesn’t matter about the time difference*I want to volunteer* I want to hug a child, and whisper  “you’re going to make it” in their little ears* I want to eat dessert for breakfast* I want to inspire those closest to me* I want to whisper I love you, even when I’m mad* I want to be accepted into my a Master’s program* I want to see the world* I want to risk sharing my deepest thoughts with those I love most* I want to make time for friendly e-mails* I want to answer the phone even when I’m busy* I want to stay at the gym after all the New Year’s Resolutions have been dropped* I want to encourage more people to try my vegetarian lifestyle* I want to dare to do the impossible with the blessing of those closest to me.
All of which I’ll try in 2011

I wish tomorrow was promised

This weekend was a strange walk down memory lane. For starters I attended a baby shower. I find it crazy that my friends and I are old enough to have kids. The whole event seemed very adult like it.  During the shower felt as though our crazy parties days were a memory from long ago (where they that long ago?). I struggle with looking at my friends as adults. It was so good to see everyone. To laugh at all the great memories, and ponder what the future will be. I know my friend will be a wonderful mother, and my former roommate will be a great “aunt” to her daughter. My wish is this little baby is half the woman those two great ladies are.

I drove home wondering how I became old… I often find myself saying things that I thought I’d say when I was older. I’m not sure what age seems “perfect” to say or think these specific thoughts, but 24 doesn’t seem old enough.  I laughed thinking to myself that this is the beginning. This is the beginning of weddings that these babies are only numbers 1 & 2, just wait for 3 & 4. We’ll have to sit down and enjoy the ride (waiter, please one more vodka & soda for me!).

Following the shower Katie & William came to visit. It’s crazy to think that I use to hold them and their feet would meet in the middle of chest. The things they said to me just made me melt inside. Their hugs and kisses are so special to me, and yet again… I started to wonder how I became old.

What all of this reminds me is that tomorrow isn’t promised. That we’re not getting younger, we’re only getting older (but it isn’t a bad thing!) If I regret anything this week, it was that on Thursday I passed up the chance to write the typical funny facebook comment. I thought about it, premeditated the comment and then got distracted. I never came back to thought and the day went on. I’ll never get the chance to write a comment to that person again. I’ll never happen to run into them at any of life’s precious moments like Christmas parties, baby showers, birthdays or weddings. Instead I’ll pay my respects in person on Thursday.

I’m sad that you left us Jessie. I’ll never forget the great times held at Tanner’s Creek & the many other times outside of work. Your smile and laugh were contagious. You always knew how to make the whole room laugh. I hope that you can continue to do so in Heaven.

I wish tomorrow was promised, and that goodbyes never had to occur.

Tomorrow this will be cherished, until then tonight it's unscripted.

UNSCRIPTED……….. It was pretty loud and clear (I’m sure most superwomen (like yourself) understand this… oh so well!). Actually might as well have said, “Hey, ready or not I’m here.” ….

I plan, and I plan to plan. I can’t help it. When I try to “relax” I prepare to relax, and then over think about relaxing to the point where it’s stressful. When I commit to something, I want to give it my all. I want to appear "put together" (even if that means I feel like frazzled, confused, and dazed). I want people to realize I did it to the best of my ability.

I’m stressed. I said it. I admitted it. Now I’d like to avoid it. The agenda in my mind says—pedicure (cup of Joe?) manicure (martini afterwards) full body massage (long nap afterwards) clean out the car (buy a new pair of jeans afterwards) clean up my bedroom (frame new pictures). The agenda on paper says- work 9 days in a row to include 2 double shifts, plan area happy hour (prepare marketing material), prepare for out of town guest (ha-ha… guest… that word makes me laugh), prepare for out of town guest to meet my crazy family (to include aunts/uncles/and grandparents!) and friends (oh by the dozen each time!). But my mind keeps picturing running in my new shoes (In fact, I’m so stressed… I had them “rushed’ to my door… to distract me).

I’m not ridiculousand I’m acting civilized… (right…. Sure I appear “put together” )At the end of the week, I promise to reward myself. It’s okay to be semi stressed about the bigger picture, however—it is important that each event have its moment. I need to remember that flaws are okay. This week, I’ll leave the late nights for someone else. This week is for smiling and enjoying each moment in life. Each of this week’s events should be fun. None of them shouldn’t be stressful. These events are the ones I’ll remember in years to come, because I’ll have filled my memory card of them.

I'm not just anything....

I’m not just your everyday girl…
So please don’t waste your caddy judgments on me.

Brides wear white.
Prom dresses are fancy.
True love is special.
Life is uncertain.
Parents are right.
Funerals are sad.
Rules aren’t to be broken.
School is important.
Respect is mandatory.

What is none of this is true? What if it’s just a way for our families to help keep us grounded? I think all the thoughts listed above are logical, that they’ve been said to keep us safe, and ensure that we’re happy. However—I’m over trying to follow these “standards”. All these little “isms” do is make me ridiculously hard on myself. They make me doubt my abilities, and fear the future.

In the midst of my own pity party, I realize again—this would be the best time for a rulebook. (If the book isn’t finished, or happens to be to long read on toilet, I’d gladly accept flowers instead. Preferably the bright pink ones, with vibrant fresh green stems.) I need to remember that other’s judgment cannot knock me down.

It is important that I chase my dreams. I must remember that road to our dreams can’t be found on the GPS. There is no estimated time of arrival. Everyday the road twist and turns. Some days we all move forward on the path to capturing our dreams, and other days were stagnant. At the end of the day we must remember to take the good with the bad, it’s part of this game of Life.

I may look like your girl next store, but don’t assume that I am your neighbors little girl.

Beep!!!! Beep!!!!! …….. Beep!!!!! Beep!!!! …….. Beep!!!!! Beep!!!!

Oh that’s just my alarm to say I’m ovulating….

I’m not sure when it happened, or even how it happened. But I woke up and became an adult. All my friends started making decisions that would forever change their life. My girlfriends started getting butterflies and rings, and my guy friends hung up the all night drinking caps and buckled down.

Because of all these changes there isn’t a weekend that doesn’t have some sort of shower/ celebration. The calendar is filled with these weekend events. I often think I should set aside $400 to cover me for the year of these events. However, I know next year there will be more events, and $400 won’t help me out.

I’m a runner…. More mentally, than physically. However, I’m adopting the new hat of being a physical runner. I’m trying my hardest to stick to the plan for the Marathon. I know I’m running for a good cause. I know that I’m running so another child can go to camp. I’m starting to realize I’m running to put everything into perspective. I’m an avoider. I’m gun-ho about addressing issues I’m passionate about. I especially like the ones where I know I’ll receive the answer I’d like to hear. I don’t do well with those that throw a curve ball into the situation, pit my stomach, or make me think twice about the situation. Hell~ I don’t do well at all with ones that make let down my guard and show my feelings.

I adopted the independent perspective a long time ago. My independent perspective didn’t need anyone to help me, or stand beside me. After my first big heart break, I ruled out ever (or so I thought) wanting to walk down that path again. But as I’m getting older (maybe one day wiser?!) I’m realizing plans don’t really work. They’re just ideas… You can’t always hold yourself to those. As I learn by trial and error that I cannot always hold myself to a plan, I’m learning that sometimes there is no time for a plan. That someone to lean on may just be the next best thing.

I need to face fear in the face. There are going to be more situations that will make me anxious, and uneasy. I need to make it a conscious decision to accept it, educate myself, and tackle it instead of running from it. It is okay to be accepting of change…

To my friends who have set your alarms for more “big girl” reasons~ I’m willing to stand right beside you. We’ll tackle our mixed emotions together.

Beep!!!! Beep!!!!! …….. Beep!!!!! Beep!!!! …….. Beep!!!!! Beep!!!!

Assemble It Yourself~

We play by the rules, or so we think… We aim to hit all the “ monumental” moments at right the times, and obey the rules/ laws when we’re working towards those moments. But do you ever wish there was a legit “Life for Dummies” book??

If I could sit down and write a few chapters, I’d start with all the moments that made me dodge my mother, and my palms sweat. The ones that make you so uncomfortable, you’re not even sure how to figure out if the sequence of events are actually “ normal”.

Chapter 1: Braces
For the next 18-36 months you will look like a fool (I’m sorry, it’s true)! These will only be “ cute” for one week, approximately around week # 2 once your mouth is out of the initial (note: initial means the first time) agony. Please brush often, and avoid obnoxious colors—it’s far from “ adorable” to make your mouth look like an American Flag, or a sideline cheerleader for your favorite sports team.

Chapter 2: Aunt Flow
She sucks—I’m not sure why you were ever patiently waiting till it was your turn. For the next 30 years, you’ll bitch every time you think of her coming to town.  Do yourself a favor (I’m begging you!)-- skip the pad phase. It will take you years to master the strategic lay out of those bulky items. And because you will feel like you’re wearing a diaper, you will walk in the most awkward manner. Your walk will scream to everyone that you’re on your PERIOD, and your secret will no longer be safe.

I’ll need help writing the in-between chapters because I can’t remember the devastating issues of life, besides sitting for days tapping my feet on the title floor hoping I got asked to Prom. When I’d write again, I’d begin writing about college, and all the crazy events that take place at the most unexpected times.

I’ll divide my chapters with brief personal stories from friends, because it is those “awful” stories that make the events so much better.  Truth of the matter is that years later, these events are just as vivid as yesterday. Just now, they don’t evoke sweating palms. I suppose I’ll continue to take all of these moments, because later they’re better shared over a bottle of wine with your closest friends~

“Eventually all the pieces fall into place.... until then, laugh at the confusion, live for the moment, and know that everything happens for a reason.” Carrie Bradshaw

Let me know before you leave~

“Please let me know before you leave. I’m losing friends and I need to prepare if you’re going to leave me.” Is not the way you want to start your morning phone call off with your best friend, but she had a good point. We’re at the age where everyone seems to be “leaving” us. They’re not really going anywhere, and they haven’t even packed up their bags—but they have made the leap into the serious relationship world. Tuesday night dinners now take a little more effort, and a night out ends a little earlier for some late night phone conversations. We now are consumed with the tiny details of our fairytales, which once seemed a million years away.

There are some that are in a rush to get to the next phase of life, and others who can’t turn back time fast enough. I’m often torn on where I stand. Sometimes, I want to be on the bridge to the next phase, and other times I want to run backwards until I regain 6-12 months of my life back. There are certain friends that seem to want to pull you to the other side, and others who want to sit down and drink coffee in the current phase.

I hadn’t thought much about this recently until the early morning phone call. Then the reality check set in when I was waiting in line for the rental car. I politely told the man I was going to grab the car seat out of my car, and I’d be right back (the line was rather long). When I came back in he then asked me if I needed a mini-van or an SUV for the car seat. The words couldn’t come out of my mouth fast enough. “ ONLY ONE CAR SEAT, A CAR IS FINE!! IT’ WILL BE GREAT!!!.” Then it dawned on me. I’m not ready to grow up!

Here’s to the extended warranty on my hybrid car, and the nice man who stopped dead in his tracks and didn’t give me the rental mini van. Here’s to the girlfriends who dare you to dream, and those that ground you when you need it. Here’s to a little bit longer before I drive around town adding to my sticker family on my back window!

But one day~ This will be mine, on the back of my station wagon... I don't think I'll be the " M.V." type of women.

Time to Climb

I’m ready for the next challenge.
I’m ready to climb the next flight of stairs.
I’m ready to have the waves chase me, and the deck protect me.
I’m ready for what’s next.

By the beach is the best place to set the plan for our goals.

I’m thankful for sand and salt and hours of pondering!
